My Big... HUGE... Accomplishment!

This past Saturday – April 21, 2012, I reached a huge goal in my business. Before I share that, let me tell you what got me there…

Back Story:

I was introduced to internet marketing in August of 2010. I was approached on Facebook by someone telling me they could help me build my current business on the internet. Since I move on a regular basis, this seemed right up my alley. I could learn how to generate leads online for ‘my’ business. Wow! I thought this was the best contact I’ve had all day!

Then my journey began. She introduced me to MLSP, set up my 2 blogs, and told me what to buy. I did it. She told me that I should just start writing content. I had no idea about what! She told me for one of my blogs, to just go through my catalog and write about the products and for the other, write what I knew. The only problem was that I knew NOTHING!

About 2 weeks in, she introduced me to her new network marketing company. She told me how revolutionary it was, and that she could ‘SMELL’ the money coming. I turned her down. I reminded her that she said that I could build ‘my’ business online. I wasn’t interested in changing to another company. From that moment on, I had no help. Enter… BAPTISM BY FIREINFORMATION OVERLOAD…  I was in the internet marketing world ALONE!

Anywho… fast forward a few months, and I drowned. I wasn’t getting good sleep. I wasn’t generating leads. I was making a little bit of money, but nowhere near what I thought. I wasn’t COMPLETELY failing, but it felt like it. So I shut it all down – no blogging, no connecting… no nothing. You can read my blog ‘Recovering from online suicide’ to get the rest of that story.

During that recovery period, I reached out to Nicole Cooper. I was willing to give up a kidney to get her to help me. She gave me assignments, and I wanted to be sure that I responded quickly. I wanted her to know that I wasn’t playing around. When she didn’t respond, I sent the assignments again to make sure I didn’t screw up! I realize now that during that time, she was checking me out. My work ethic, my quality of work… my reputation, all that… sneaky devil.

A breakthrough came, in the form of an email. I had been poking around in the Warrior Forum, and Nicole had a special going on for the launch of the MLM PLR Store. I bought it. I received an email from Nicole that said ‘you’re a smart lady.’ Nice. THE Nicole Cooper emailed me personally. SCORE!

Side notes:

Ray Higdon said, ‘if you want to get someone’s attention, make sure to put money in their pocket. I don’t care what it is.’

If you don’t know – hang out in the Warrior Forum – you can get great stuff there – for an even better price.

Back to the Backstory…

Nicole and I talked a few times on the phone. We did some work together. All through this time, I was taking notes FEVERISHLY. Every bit of ‘little’ stuff she said, I wrote down. One thing that stuck out to me was this.

She said, ‘Being an internet marketer is like being an athlete. Fans create the hype, but the endorsements pay the bills.’ I still didn’t quite get it, but the wheels were turning.

So, here I am today.

fireworks My Big... HUGE... Accomplishment!

Oh… what was the HUGE accomplishment?

I made $1000 this past week!!

…with more coming this week!!

The best part:  it IS duplicable/duplicatable. (No, duplicatable is currently not a word). OK…

Tomorrow, I will post information on the webinar I will be hosting to tell you what I did to get me from making a few hundred dollars a month to a $1000 in a week.

Another bit of advice: If you’re not on Nicole’s list, get there. Go to the MLM PLR store, sign up as an affiliate. Get on her trainings. You see what it has done for me!

Oh yeah, do me a favor – share this with a friend who may be struggling on the internet. This might help them! Leave a comment if it helps you!

Keep marching forward,

I joined the 100 day biz builder challenge with Jordan Schultz and Adam writers block 7 Ways To Create Killer Content When You Have Writers BlockChandler. One of the first things we were assigned to do was to choose an accountability partner. I connected with my partner, and she’s dealing with some serious writer’s block. That short Facebook chat was the inspiration for this post. Even the best of writers hit the wall! Here are 5 ways to create killer content when you can’t think of a thing to write about.

Create Killer Content by Writing A Review

Choose a product, service, or opportunity and create killer content based on that! No, it’s not incredibly sexy, but it’s a great source of content. You can talk about how the product works. You can discuss whether you found the service valuable, or you can even talk about how an opportunity’s pay plan should work. Writing a review helps further brand you as a leader, as you display your knowledge of what’s going on in your niche. A word of caution here – don’t just write reviews, or ___ is a scam type content. That can cheapen your value in the marketplace.

Your own horn is great source of killer content

Share your successes with the marketplace. My good friend Ruth Alade did that just today. She wrote a seriously kick-butt post on how she took her site from zero to over 22000 visitors in a year. Can you say ROCKSTAR? She’s got a webinar coming up in which she will share exactly what she did to get there! You should totally go to her blog and register. When you share your successes with the marketplace, you attract people to you. They want to learn how you achieved the victory. It doesn’t matter how small the accomplishment, there is someone in the internet world that is dying to get where you are!

Phone A Friend to find out what kind of killer content they’re creating

Think sessions or brainstorming is a great way to come up with ideas for your blog posts. Call your running partner and start coming up with some ideas. Maybe there is a group of you who can get on a conference call and come up with something. The point I’m making is to not try to tough it out on your own. Being a part of a mastermind group is a great way to get fresh ideas and guidance for your business. As an aside, if you’re the smartest one in the group, get a new group!

Be Larry King and interview someone to create killer content

Why not interview someone? It doesn’t have to be some mega 6-figure guru. You can interview anyone and create killer content! The upside is that you’ll help someone get some exposure. You could compile a list of 10 questions or so, and ask away. Boom… You’ll probably have 2 or 3 blog posts.

Remix and Re-use old content to make new killer content

If music artists can reuse old tunes, you can reuse an old article to create new killer content. Go back into your own archives to see what content might be relevant to the current time. It is way easier to update an old post with current information than to crank out a whole new one. Besides, you’ll have new people on your list that have never read your old content.

What you’re reading will create mountains of content

Personal development is crucial when you’re in business for yourself. Talk about the books you’re reading. If you’re not reading any, start! Share the lessons that you’re learning as you read. Make sure you use the author’s name or book title in your headline.

Share a personal experiences to create killer content AND massive traffic

We live in a voyeuristic society. People LOVE to hear about things you experience in your personal life. This is what helps your readers to know that you are a real person. Talk about how your child put oatmeal hands on your favorite blouse… right before you were to meet a prospect. Share how you set your house on fire trying to fry a turkey. Your readers will eat it up!

Every writer everywhere has dealt with writer’s block at some point. If none of those 7 ideas work for you, then I suggest using Private Label Rights content. You just rework it to make it your own.

Since I started this series, one of the questions I never answered is: What to do if you’re not sure you want to blog. There are people out there who blog primary colors Blogging Basic Training: What Do I Do If Im Not Sure If I Want To Blogare not sure if blogging is for them. They’d like to test the waters before doing the proverbial cannonball! I can certainly understand that, and to be quite honest, I wish I had known these things before I did the cannonball! Here are some options to try out blogging if you’re not sure you want to blog.

Try a Viral Blogging System if you’re not sure you want to blog

A viral blogging system is a great way to start if you have thought that you’re not sure if you want to blog. This is a low-cost  option that offers several benefits. Because the system is housed on an aged domain, your blog posts rank higher in the search engines than on a new blog or a free-hosted blog. The reason I recommend this so highly is that this is a ‘learn and earn’ opportunity. You will be able to earn 100% commissions on each person you refer to the network. Not only that, you will have access to training from other master marketers in the industry to learn how they have grown their businesses on the internet.

Free hosted blogs are great to figure out if you want to blog

While I’m openly not a fan of free-hosted blogs for business, I would definitely suggest this as a place to start to see if you want a blog. One of the best ones I’ve seen out there is Weebly.com. I like Weebly, because you can start out free – with your own domain – and then upgrade to paid hosting later on. The caution with free hosting of course is ownership. Otherwise, I believe Weebly is a great option to have one foot in the water and one on land. Your posts won’t rank as well in the search engines. If you’re not sure that you want to blog, then this really is the least of your concerns.

Facebook notes are AWESOME to decide if you want to blog

Facebook notes are a STELLAR option for blogging if you’re not sure you want to blog. The reason Facebook notes are SUPER cool is that you can blog without really having a blog. The downside to Facebook notes is that you have to know a little Hyper Text Mark Up Language (HTML) code in order to place links and add pictures. Facebook notes can be shared on Facebook, and there is a unique link to each of your notes. You can share that unique link on other social sites as well. Facebook notes are a great way to build your brand and your following before you have a self-hosted blog or website.

Don’t know if you want to blog? Microblogging sites can help you!

A microblog is different from blogging in the content size is usually smaller. The reason microblogging rocks as an option if you’re on the fence about whether you want to blog is that you they are a quick exchange of ideas. All you need to get started is a working email address. Some examples of microblogging sites are: Tumblr, Posterous, and Twitter. With microblogging sites, you can upload pictures, text and video rather quickly, BUT you are building on someone else’s domain. My advice when using microblogging sites is to maintain a copy of your posts for yourself. When you decide to make blogging a central part of your internet marketing, you won’t have to worry about moving your content. With microblogging sites, as well as with free-hosted blogs, if your content disappears, it’s usually gone.

The Best blogger is a productive blogger!

Blogging is taking off like a rocket these days! People are turning more and more to the internet to find ways to generate an income. Blogging is one of those ways. The catch though, is that blogging in itself is NOT an income producing activity.

SHUT UP!!

Don’t worry, I thought it was too! So, even though blogging is a necessary task, it REALLY doesn’t produce any income. The best thing to do is to become a productive blogger – that is to spend as less time as possible on this non-income producing activity to get the maximum results.

Here are a few tips on being a productive blogger:

Productive Blogger Tip #1 – Plan your topics

Knowing what you will talk about will greatly increase your productivity. Keep a notepad or recorder with you at all times. Take note of topics that interest you – perhaps a run-in with a prospect that went really well or terribly wrong; leadership lessons, cooking with gas – whatever fits your niche. Take this series for instance. I know that every Monday I need to have a blogging basic training topic ready to go!

Productive Blogger Tip #2 – Go on a writing frenzy

Instead of writing a blog post per day, crank ‘em out in a few hours! Catch your breath a second… This is something you may have to grow into. My personal goal is to get my blog posts for the week done in no more than 2 days. Try at least get a good head start on the week. If you can’t get 7 done in a day, shoot for 2 or 3. If you plan your topics, you have a better chance of becoming a productive blogger by writing your posts in advance.

Productive Blogger Tip #3 – Preload your posts in WordPress

This is one of the yummiest features of WordPress! You can preschedule your posts to publish when you want them.

Check this out:

schedule posts Blogging Basic Training: 5 Tips To Become A Productive Blogger

Schedule Your Blog Posts

As you can see, you can schedule the date and time your posts will be published. Can’t you just smell the increase in your productivity?? By using this feature, you can preload your posts and not have to worry about it during your work day.

Productive Blogger Tip #4 – Create your blogging space

Although this is tip #4, it should probably be #1! What is your optimal work environment? Do you need music blaring? Perhaps you need to be outside? Determine the environment in which you are the most productive with your writing, and go there! One of the WORST things I ever did was try to write while my children were watching TV in the same room. That was the biggest waste of 30 minutes I had endured. Now, I know the house has to be quiet, except for music playing… and it has to be some rockin’ tunes for me to really get my blogging groove on!

Productive Blogger Tip #5 – Have some life-savers…

As great as all this pre-planning sounds, sometimes the plan just doesn’t go according to plan… Then what do you do? You go to the life-savers:

  1. PLR material – If you are pressed for time, short on topics, or just short on creativity, invest in Private Label Rights content. Don’t forget to tweak it and give it your flavor.
  2. Outsourcing – Odesk and Elance are great places to find writers to create the content you need. You can outsource some or all of your content.
  3. Reuse old content – Go back in your archives. Perhaps something you’ve written previously would be great to re-circulate.
  4. Guest-bloggers – Wanna save yourself some time and help someone else get some visibility? Have a guest bloggers. You can schedule this on a recurring basis or whenever. You can have other bloggers ‘apply’ so that you can review their content before you say yea or nay.

Being a productive blogger will help you focus more on income producing activities. Using all or one of these tips will help increase your productivity and overall effectiveness. Share these tips with a friend!
